The Building
In partnership with Help the Aged since 1999 ANSWER has raised approx £500,000 towards building a new purpose built Day Centre, adjacent to Whitburn Pentecostal Church.
The land was purchased for £1 from West Lothian Council and planning consent was approved in the Autumn of 2003.
The building work commenced in June 2005 and was completed in 2006.
The new Centre allows us to increase the number of dementia day care places to twenty four over two days and a dementia café on one afternoon. The Housing Support Service has relocated its offices to the new building in July as has MOOD (Mental Health Options for Older People with Depression).
The new building has been designed to take into account the specific needs of people with dementia. A Good Access award was granted by West Lothian Ability Centre in December 2007. This follows an award in 2006 for West Lothian Volunteer Organisation of the Year.
The Board of Directors recognised the need to improve the comfort and energy loss from the front foyer and embarked on a fundraising campaign to raise sufficient funds to build an extension to rectify these issues. The extension which cost around £32,000 was built by Wagstaff Interiors and was completed at the end of September 2008.
